چکیده

The solutions of fluid-structure interaction problems, using displacement-based finite element formulations for acoustic fluids, may contain spurious non-zero frequencies. To remove this deficiency, we present here a new formulation based on a three-field discretization using displacements, pressure and a “vorticity moment” as variables with an appropriate treatment of the boundary conditions. We propose specific finite element discretizations and give the numerical results of various example problems.

Three Dimensional Viscous Finite Element Formulation For Acoustic Fluid Structure Interaction.

A three dimensional viscous finite element model is presented in this paper for the analysis of the acoustic fluid structure interaction systems including, but not limited to, the cochlear-based transducers. The model consists of a three dimensional viscous acoustic fluid medium interacting with a two dimensional flat structure domain. The fluid field is governed by the linearized Navier-Stokes...

Non Uniform Rational B Spline (NURBS) Based Non-Linear Analysis of Straight Beams with Mixed Formulations

Displacement finite element models of various beam theories have been developed traditionally using conventional finite element basis functions (i.e., cubic Hermite, equi-spaced Lagrange interpolation functions, or spectral/hp Legendre functions). Various finite element models of beams differ from each other in the choice of the interpolation functions used for the transverse deflection w, tota...

Complex Wave-number Dispersion Analysis of Stabilized Finite Element Methods for Acoustic Fluid – Structure Interaction

The application of finite element methods to problems in structural acoustics ( the vibration of an elastic body coupled to an acoustic fluid medium) is considered. New stabilized methods based on the Hellinger-Reissner variational principle with a generalized least-squares modification are developed which yield improvement in accuracy over the standard Galerkin finite element method for both i...

Finite element analysis of compressible and incompressible fluid-solid systems

This paper deals with a finite element method to solve interior fluid-structure vibration problems valid for compressible and incompressible fluids. It is based on a displacement formulation for both the fluid and the solid. The pressure of the fluid is also used as a variable for the theoretical analysis yielding a well posed mixed linear eigenvalue problem. Lowest order triangular Raviart-Tho...

On the crack propagation modeling of hydraulic fracturing by a hybridized displacement discontinuity/boundary collocation method

Numerical methods such as boundary element and finite element methods are widely used for the stress analysis in solid mechanics. This study presents boundary element method based on the displacement discontinuity formulation to solve general problems of interaction between hydraulic fracturing and discontinuities. The crack tip element and a higher order boundary displacement collocation techn...
